5 Spring Decluttering Tips

If spring spurs your heart into wanting to clean out and declutter your house/belongings, I hear you! Spring always gives me a little extra nudge to clean things up again especially when I can have the windows open again. SO without delay, here are 5 of my best decluttering tips for you:

  1. Declutter by category instead of by room. It feels overwhelming to set out to tackle an entire room/space. But by decluttering by category, it feels more manageable and you can have your mind set in the right mood/attitude for that category. (It is hard to go from cleaning out your kids clothes to cleaning out their toys in the same setting!).

  2. Start small and with non-sentimental items. Once you build momentum, those sentimental items will be easier to sort through but until then, start with the junk drawer, your linen closet etc.

  3. Think in terms of value not cost. It can be hard to let something go because you spent money on it. But we need to focus on what serves us well and is of value in our life/season. Just because we spent money on something, doesn’t mean we need to hold on to it forever!

  4. Reduce duplicates. It is hard when you accumulate multiple of the same item. Try to focus on which one (or several if needed) that you use and want/need to keep. While ridding of the rest without guilt.

  5. Aim for everything you are keeping to have a designated space/spot. It is much easier to maintain your belongings if everything has an actual home (not just sitting on the floor of a stuffed full closet)

Let me know if you have any great decluttering tips! Happy Spring Cleaning friend!
