Kid Friendly Read Aloud Book List
Almost a year ago, I made the decision that I wanted to start reading my kids chapter books. We read a TON of picture books. I mean, A TON. But if you are looking to add a read aloud routine in with your kids, here is a list of our favorites so far:
(For reference, my kids are 5 and 2, they were 4 and 1 when I started. My youngest recently has started sitting and listening but sometimes will play in the same room we are reading in! We typically read after lunch and before afternoon rest time and again before bed!)

Sophie Mouse. This series is definitely one of our favorites. It is SO sweet and wholesome. We absolutely loved this series. My sweet 5 year old cried and cried as we finished the last book because she was SO sad they were done. They are on our list of books to reread already AND there is another one coming out in 2026! (There are currently 23 in the series)
Heartwood Hotel. This series was also adorable and well loved! We actually picked this one up because one of them was on a list of recommended winter/Christmas books. We loved them!
Pippi Longstocking. My 5 year old ADORED this book. We giggled and laughed our way through this and then watched the movie. It was SO fun!
Charlottes Web. This one pulled on heartstrings but it was a favorite across the board. Such a good sweet story.
Winnie the Pooh. We read all 4 of these and I LOVED the first 2. The other 2 are poems and I will be honest, I don’t love poetry however my kids actually really really loved listening to them!
Not a book but just another plug, that we also LOVE to listen to books and podcasts on our YOTO players. We have both the big and mini yoto players. We actually prefer the big yoto players here at home but we use the mini one in the car! We just started listening to the Nat Theo podcast and we are LOVING it!
We are working through a LONG list of other books and I will update this list as we continue to work through them! Cheers to reading with your kids and creating a love of books in your home!
